Sometime in the year 2002, after the release of the first movie in the Lord of the Rings series, Fellowship of the Ring, I began getting sucked into Tolkien fanfiction, specifically slashfiction. (What can I say, I do find Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn very sexy. Deal.) This led, in turn, to my first tentative forays into writing fanfiction on my own.
So far, it's all Tolkien fanfiction -- what there is of it. It's the only canon I know well enough to feel comfortable writing fanfiction in.
Vignettes:
Aragorn/Éomer (Lord of the Rings, but years after)
Once, he could never have imagined anybody but Arwen . . . but battlefields and the nearness of death can make strange bedfellows.
Faramir/Éowyn (Lord of the Rings, but years after)
A nightmare for Faramir -- but at least he's not alone with his pain.
Stories of Men:
Narn I Gorth Húrin (Silmarillion)
At the end of the Battle of Unnumbered Tears, Húrin Thalion has the bad luck to be captured alive. (Yes, torturefic. NC-17, though no rape or sex.)
Werewolf/Warg stories:
A note for those unfamiliar with Tolkien canon: the werewolves of Middle Earth are not human beings who change into wolves during the full moon. They are demons whom Sauron has put into the forms of giant wolves to do his work.
Falling (Silmarillion)
Draugluin doesn't get much space in either The Silmarillion or "The Lay of Leithian" -- just a few lines. This story describes the encounter with Lúthien and Huan from his point of view. No slash, but dark and violent.
A Mission to Beleriand (Silmarillion/Time of the Two Trees)
My first piece -- a snippet. The thoughts of a werewolf as he leads his pack over a mountain range on their way to Beleriand, in the days before the Sun and the Moon.
Mary Sue vs. Draugluin (Humor)
Well, when you're a Dark Lord who tends to turn his base into a barren wasteland, you've got to feed your minions somehow . . ..
